Co-Principals of Street Plans Collaborative, Michael Lydon and Anthony Garcia were the winners of the 2017 Seaside Prize.
The noted American architect, urban planner and a founder of the Congress for New Urbanism, Andrés Duany says that “Tactical Urbanism is pure American know-how. It is the common sense that housed, fed, and made prosperous an entire continent of penniless immigrants.”
Tony Garcia is an architect, writer, speaker and faculty member at the University of Miami School of Architecture. Tony is an advocate for transit, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure. He has a bachelor’s degree in architecture and urban design from New York University and a master’s degree in architecture from the University of Miami.
Planner, speaker, writer and advocate Mike Lydon contributed heavily to the Miami 21 Project, winner of the American Planning Association’s National Planning Excellence Award. After starting his career at DPZ, Mike worked at Smart Growth Vermont, the Massachusetts Bicycle Coalition, and the Ann Arbor GetDowntown Program. He co-authored “The Smart Growth Manual” with Andrés Duany and Jeff Speck. Mike has a bachelor’s degree in American cultural studies from Bates College and a master’s degree in urban planning from the University of Michigan.
